Dave Boden-Hook, Head of Management Services for Wright Brothers Industrial Services and Managing Director of Wright Medics, has taken over the helm of the CCNSG* Committee that leads the direction of the preeminent Safety Passport programme.
Dave replaces Mark Riley, Project Controls Lead in Emerging Energy for Phillips 66, who has sat on the committee for nine years, the last five of which he has been Chair.
Dave has been involved in delivering the Engineering Construction Industry Training Board’s (ECITB) course for over 15 years and brings a unique perspective to the committee – both delivering the course as a training provider, but also representing a substantial contractor within the engineering construction industry (ECI).
He said: “As a contractor we have a huge amount of experience in engineering construction across a vast range of projects from power stations and food processing to mineral extraction and processing. We understand the critical importance of good safety training.
“I have seen first-hand the impact the CCNSG Safety Passport has made on the business. Since we introduced this one card for all our personnel, the number of health and safety incidents has significantly reduced. It has been the cornerstone of improving our health and safety performance.”

ECITB Chief Executive Andrew Hockey added: “The position of Chair on the committee is very much being passed on from one safe pair of hands to another. This will ensure that the CCNSG continues to be the gold standard for organisations making safety their priority.”
‘Don’t let CCNSG sit on its laurels’
At his final meeting on the committee, Dave presented Mark with a certificate of appreciation for his work over the last nine years. Mark has recently taken a role as a member of the ECITB’s Board.
In his final address to the committee, Mark said: “My stepping down as Chair is purely due to other time commitments, but I know I am leaving this in good hands with Dave at the helm.
“During my tenure, the CCNSG has really moved forward. I am proud to leave it in a better place and I hope you will continue the good work.
“I implore the committee to maintain the excellent quality of the programme; stay secure by continuing to audit and quality assure the course and do not let the CCNSG sit on its laurels.
“Look at how we can grow and evolve to continue to meet the needs of industry while maintaining that unique place in the market that it currently has.”
Safety Passport ‘resonating with workers’
The CCNSG Safety Passport is the nationally recognised safety card for the UK engineering construction industry.
It has delivered the best safety accreditation for more than 30 years and issued more than one million cards. It now has over 80 Approved Training Providers delivering the training across the UK.
The Wright Group provides training not just internally to its own staff but also to other companies where they often go to site to deliver the course.
Dave explained: “Tailoring the discussions to the individual client and delivering this on site truly makes it resonate with the workers.
“I’d like to see it considered a safety passport for more than ECI as I believe the content is just as relevant for many other industries. We could look at creating bolt-ons to tailor it to adjacent industries while retaining the core CCNSG content.”
