What ECITB Scholarships are available?
There are a range of disciplines to choose from, delivered by our network of training providers across the UK.

Mechanical
Mechanical Maintenance Technicians are responsible for the fault diagnosis, routine servicing, repair and maintenance of complex plant, machinery and associated components and on occasions to install machinery used within their areas.

Welding
Welders in the engineering construction industry are responsible for the joining together of metal, or sometimes thermoplastic, components and assemblies in either pipe or plate form.

Good fabric maintenance helps maintain asset integrity. This discipline involves surface preparation, blast cleaning, spraying, painting and thermal insulation.

Electrical Technicians install, test, inspect and diagnose faults in electrical systems and the associated cabling and equipment.
Instrument & Controls Technicians assemble, install, remove and replace components, disassemble, test functionality and operability, maintain and repair instrumentation systems.

What do ECITB Scholarships involve?
- Industrial skills and knowledge training for 3-5 days a week
- Online content – ECITB Digital Passport, clean energy technologies and behavioural-based safety
- ECITB Pre-Employment Programme which includes:
- CCNSG Safety Passport
- Working safely with hand tools, power tools and equipment
- Manual handling
- Low risk confined space
- Working at height
- Abrasive wheels (handheld and bench mounted)
- Regular meetings with employers looking for new talent
- Work placements with engineering construction employers

ECITB Scholarship FAQs
What is an ECITB Scholarship?
An ECITB Scholarship is a full-time, off-the-job engineering training programme designed to help people develop the initial skills and knowledge needed to enter the engineering construction industry.
Scholarship learners can gain practical skills, industry knowledge, an engineering qualification and relevant safety training. Programmes also include employer engagement, work experience and support with progression into employment or an apprenticeship.
Scholarships are delivered through selected colleges and training providers. Disciplines and locations vary from year to year according to industry need.

Is an ECITB Scholarship the same as an apprenticeship?
No.
A Scholarship is a full-time, off-the-job training programme. A learner is not employed as an apprentice while completing it.
An apprenticeship is paid employment. The apprentice is employed by a company and completes training and assessment alongside their work.
A Scholarship can help someone develop the skills and qualifications needed to become a strong candidate for future employment or an apprenticeship, but completing a Scholarship does not guarantee a job or apprenticeship.
How do I apply for an ECITB Scholarship?
Applications are normally managed by the college or training provider delivering the Scholarship.

Programme locations, entry requirements, application dates and available disciplines may change each year.
Are Scholarships available everywhere in Great Britain?
Scholarships are delivered in selected locations and are not available in every town or region.
Locations are determined by factors including employer demand, local skills needs, available training facilities and funding.
The Scholarships page should be used as the current source of information rather than previous programme lists or information from earlier recruitment years.
Does completing a Scholarship guarantee an apprenticeship?
No. The ECITB and its training providers work to create employer engagement and progression opportunities, but employment cannot be guaranteed.
Scholarship learners should actively apply for suitable apprenticeships and employment opportunities throughout their programme. They should not rely on a single employer or wait until the programme has finished before beginning their job search.
Learners should speak to their training provider about:
- Employer engagement activities.
- Work experience.
- Application support.
- Upcoming recruitment deadlines.
- Progression opportunities in related occupations.
