“We’ve delivered high quality training to a range of industries involved in engineering construction sectors. We believe that the future for the engineering construction industry is to provide diverse and modularised training.”
AFS Technologies, a provider of asset management solutions and training services to industry, was crowned Training Organisation of the Year at the 13th annual Engineering Construction Industry (ECI) Training and Development Awards.
The Aberdeen company received the accolade at a prestigious ceremony at Glaziers Hall in London to celebrate excellence in training and development in the ECI.
The ECI spans sectors that focus on the construction, maintenance and decommissioning of heavy industry, including oil and gas, nuclear, power generation, renewables, carbon capture and storage, hydrogen, chemicals, food and drink, pharmaceuticals and water treatment.
AFS Technologies is a leading independent expert in small bore tubing (SBT), mechanical joint integrity (MJI) and instrumentation & control services across numerous energy sectors.
It scooped the national accolade in recognition of its positive impact on learners, employers, asset owners and the wider ECI through its training delivery.
Judges recognised the company for how it “champions collaboration, access and competence in the oil and gas, renewables and nuclear sectors”.
Highlighted was its leading role in delivering technical tests for the Connected Competence industry scheme, which assures an ongoing base level of technical competence for workers across the ECI, in particular in oil and gas.
AFS Technologies was also praised for its support reviewing training standards, including changes to SBT that it helped to co-develop and pilot. It was presented with the trophy by award category sponsor GSS Training.

“I’m absolutely delighted for our team to win the award. They’ve done such a great job.
“We see a role for ourselves in ensuring competency is transferred from the oil and gas sector and energy industries into the new energy transition sectors like hydrogen and moving on to nuclear as well as other sectors.
“Disciplines like SBT and MJI are really transferable skills that we can take from one sector to another. We’ve already trained people in the hydrogen sector on SBT. The courses and technical tests we’ve developed will assist those sectors in ensuring they’ve got a competent workforce at a much quicker pace.”
