Qualification summary

The objective of this qualification is to prepare candidates for employment by attaining a range of knowledge, skills and behaviours to support activities within the engineering construction industry. The qualification provides opportunities to progress to the next level of vocational qualifications in the engineering construction industry.

This qualification is suitable for candidates age 16+ who are interested in entering the engineering construction industry in the role of support operative.

This qualification is also suitable for individuals who would like to acquire engineering skills in a realistic, sheltered and controlled environment such as that offered by colleges, training providers and company training centres. This will then enable a safe progression into the workplace/employment.

Working under direct supervision, this will entail the individual to work safely and interpret documentation and procedures to perform specified tasks such as preparing and reinstating the work area/equipment, basic material shaping and supporting the dismantling/removal/installation of components and equipment.

This qualification is based on Occupational/Apprenticeship standards and National Occupational Standards (NOS).

To complete this qualification learners must enrol with one of ECITB’s Approved Centres listed below.

What is the qualification structure?

To achieve this qualification candidates must complete nine mandatory units.

It takes the average candidate 359 hours to complete this qualification. This involves 359 hours of time with a teacher, trainer or assessor as the candidate will be supervised throughout the duration of this qualification.

Interpret and follow documentation and procedures

PRE2
Prepare work area, tools, materials and equipment in an engineering construction environment

MAR2
Perform basic marking out in engineering construction

SHA2
Perform basic shaping activities by material removal in engineering construction

ASC2
Support the assembly of components in engineering construction

REM2
Support the removal and dismantling of components in engineering construction

RWA2
Reinstate the work area after engineering construction activities
