The Engineering Construction Industry Training Board (ECITB) is inviting in-scope employers, who are keen to have more STEM outreach in schools in their local area, to apply for a fully funded training programme for women in their organisations to become careers ambassadors.
The ECITB is funding ten places on the award-winning STEMAZING Inspiration Academy that supports women and non-binary people in STEM to inspire children through fun, interactive online STEM sessions.
The programme builds public engagement skills and confidence on camera and includes a STEM delivery toolbox. The newly empowered role models then deliver a four-week programme of LIVE online or in-person STEM sessions to children aged 7-9 years old.
Schools benefit from the programme by taking part in hands-on simple STEM activities and experiments designed to promote children’s curiosity and creativity. They also receive a STEMKit of resources.
At the end of the programme, companies will have their own fully trained role models and STEM ambassadors who can continue schools’ engagement post-programme.

“The 2024 ECITB Workforce Census revealed that 40,000 additional workers could be needed across the engineering construction industry (ECI) for major projects by 2030. 71% of employers reported challenges in hiring workers, up from 53% in 2021.
“And it also highlighted that the proportion of women in the ECI has grown but still only stands at just 16.9%.
“To meet the growing demand for workers, it is imperative that we increase the diversity of people working in the industry and promote careers into the industry to under-represented groups at an early age.
“This programme inspires children, raises awareness of STEM careers and, importantly, provides young girls with female role models in the industry.”
