Organisations that operate across the engineering construction industry (ECI) are invited to a series of Regional Forums throughout April and May to hear the latest news from their regions and nations including the Government’s consultation on the principle of the CITB and ECITB forming a single body.

The consultation on the ITB reform, which was launched this week, will run for 12 weeks until Sunday 14 June.

This will be one of the key topics at the ECITB’s upcoming Regional Forums.

7th May – North West Forum (Warrington)

14th May – Nuclear Symposium (London)

19th May – Midland’s/East of England Forum (Peterborough)

27th May – Humber Forum (Immingham)

ECI employers, training organisations, clients, trade bodies and other industry partners will receive an invitation to attend along with the full agenda. Employers will receive these from their Relationship Managers.  All meetings will run from 10am-12pm.

The ECITB will also be attending the ECIA Conference in Carlisle on 13th May to provide an update to its members on the Government’s consultation.

The ITB Reform consultation document sets out:

  • the government’s rationale for ITB reform, including the skills challenges the reform seeks to address;
  • the proposed approach to ITB reform and the intended benefits;
  • the technical detail of creating a single, unified ITB; and
  • alternative approaches to ITB reform the government considered.
Matt Knights

“Any decision to form a single body would only be made following the consultation.

“If that is the decision following the consultation, the Government proposes to close one of the current ITBs and expand the scope of the remaining ITB to cover the combined construction and engineering construction industries. This single ITB would be renamed to reflect its broader remit.

“We encourage our stakeholders to attend our forums to find out more about the skills and training initiatives that are underway in their region or nation but also to ask any questions they may have on the implications of the proposed ITB reform.

“I would like to stress, however, the principal way to respond to the consultation, is through the questionnaire on the Government’s consultation portal. I encourage our stakeholders to complete the online form to ensure the views of the engineering construction industry are represented.”

Matt Knights

Director of Regional Operations at the ECITB

DWP is particularly interested in hearing from employers, training providers, unions and representative bodies across the construction and engineering construction sectors in England, Scotland and Wales.

The launch of the consultation comes after the announcement on the intent to consult earlier this month.
