The Engineering Construction Industry Training Board (ECITB) has paid tribute to Board member Steve Hunt following the sad news that he passed away on Monday 7 September.

Steve was Executive Vice President at Altrad UK, Ireland & Nordics, as well as an ECITB Board Trustee, Council Chair and judge for the Engineering Construction Industry (ECI) Training and Development Awards.

Steve started his career as an EITB (now ECITB) Engineering Apprentice with Babcock & Wilcox. He progressed rapidly through increasingly senior management roles to senior executive level positions with a number of major energy companies both within the UK and internationally.

In May 2020, Steve joined the ECITB Board, which is made up of industry representatives and independent experts and helps set the strategic direction and monitor performance of the ECITB.

Lynda Armstrong OBE, Chair of the ECITB, said: “On behalf of everyone at the ECITB, we would like to pass on our condolences to Steve’s family, friends and colleagues at Altrad at the sad news of his passing.

“We greatly valued Steve’s contributions over the last six years as a member of the Board in not only helping steer the direction of the ECITB but also championing our work across industry.

“His passion and experience were a massive asset to drive forward the skills agenda in the engineering construction industry (ECI).

“Steve’s breadth of expertise and knowledge of the ECI were vital in helping us develop and deliver three iterations of our Leading Industry Learning Strategy since he joined the Board in 2020.

“We were also greatly appreciative that Steve joined the judging panel for the ECI Awards last year, offering great insight and experience in helping pick our winners.”
