The Engineering Construction Industry Training Board’s (ECITB) mission to lead industry learning is showcased in the 160th anniversary edition of Engineering Magazine.
First published on 5 January 1866 (pictured main), the magazine remains a respected and trusted voice by industry, positioning itself ‘for innovators in technology, manufacturing and management’.

Engineering Magazine has published a 140-page special edition (pictured) to mark its milestone year, in which the work of the ECITB features in a blog by Chief Executive Andrew Hockey.
In the edition, Andrew talks about 2026 also being an important year for the ECITB as it starts to deliver its new, five-year Leading Industry Learning strategy 2026-30.
The strategy outlines how the ECITB will help to develop the skills needed for the delivery of critical infrastructure projects, energy security and net zero ambitions across Great Britain.
In his blog, Andrew writes: “Our strategy sets out how the ECITB will rise to meet the challenges of an increasingly complex and fast-changing external environment and deliver positive, long-term outcomes for our levy payers, the wider workforce and the country.
“Our approach aligns with the UK Government’s mission-driven focus – particularly its goal to transition to clean power and stimulate sustainable economic growth in doing so.”
He also references how 85% of levy-paying employers, representing 98% of the industrial training levy paid, voted in favour of rates for the next three years during October’s levy consultation period.
He added: “The positive response represented another significant vote of confidence in the ECITB and showed that the plans outlined in our strategy correctly identify the key workforce challenges and set out the right priorities to support industry.
“It is now up to the ECITB to deliver on this strong mandate, building on our successful track record of driving skills improvements throughout the industry.”
