“As we move towards the energy transition, the ability to work effectively within teams to solve complex challenges is essential.

“Our industry is built on collaboration—whether it’s working across disciplines, industries, or geographical boundaries. This is why we are so proud to support an initiative that showcases these vital skills and encourages young people to explore the many possibilities a career in engineering offers.”

Big Bang Teamwork Award - judges and award ceremony

The Big Bang Competition is now closed for entries.  It is free to young people in the UK aged 11 to 18 who can enter one project, either on their own or as part of a team. Selected finalists will showcase their projects at the Big Bang Fair on 17 June 2025 at Birmingham NEC where the awards ceremony will also take place.

Entries within the competition submitted for the Teamwork Award will present their projects to a panel of judges. This includes Andrew and Lauriann Williams, Civil Engineer at RB Plant and representative from the early careers network, Innov8.

Andrew added:

“By sponsoring the Teamwork Award, we aim to inspire young minds, ignite a passion for engineering, and reinforce the important role they can play in shaping a better, more sustainable future.

“For many students, the Big Bang Competition is their first introduction to the excitement and challenge of engineering. It’s an opportunity to showcase not only their technical skills but their ability to collaborate, communicate, and innovate. Skills that are invaluable.”
