New ECITB training for the statutory equipment maintenance and inspection in wind turbines is now available through Hexis Training.

Learners took part in the Wind Turbine Inspection and Maintenance pilot course delivered by Hexis in November 2021.

The new training course equips wind turbine technicians with the skills needed to safely and competently perform maintenance and inspection duties in line with the statutory equipment inspection and maintenance requirements placed on developers operating in this expanding sector.

New Training standards are currently under development to support courses around the inspection and maintenance of portable lifting equipment used in wind turbines.

Chris Claydon, Chief Executive of the ECITB, said: “The ECITB is committed to support the wind industry, which has a key role to play in supporting delivery of the British Energy Security Strategy and meeting net zero targets. With the industry required to more than quadruple its generating capacity to 50 GW by 2030, including 5 GW of floating offshore wind, the safe and effective maintenance of wind turbines is of critical importance.

“We have worked closely with major offshore wind developers and supply chain companies to develop a suite of training standards to support the safe and effective delivery of wind turbine statutory equipment inspection and maintenance. I’m delighted to hear that major players such as Stowen see ECITB accredited products as contract-winning qualifications in the area.”

Kieron Ford, Business Growth Director at Stowen Group, said: “The ECITB statutory inspection training standard gives the industry confidence that technicians in the field meet the required level of competence and safety awareness.

“Hexis has now developed a cost effective training solution which has enabled some operators to multi-skill their workforce further ensuring they employ technicians who can maintain their assets and reducing costs.

“We will continue to work alongside the ECITB to widen the reach to international markets.”
