“Construction Week opened my eyes to the multitude of careers available in this industry. Even now, two decades later, I remember the event clearly.”
Daniel Clark, Small Works Co-ordinator and EV Charge Manager at Lincoln-based electrical maintenance contractors, Brook and Mayo, remembers attending Construction Week in 2005 when he was 12 years old.
He opted to go on the trip to the event with his school, William Farr C of E Comprehensive School, based just outside Lincoln.

“I remember we had a go at painting and decorating, traffic control and bricklaying. It was a great day. Different to any other careers event. Being so hands-on inspires young people. I really enjoyed it.”
Daniel completed his A-levels and went to Lincoln University before joining Lindum group in its Bids and Marketing Team. The role involved interviewing site managers, estimating works and marketing.
“I met other colleagues at Lindum who were inspired to join the industry because of the event.”

In 2018 and 2019 Daniel returned to Construction Week – but this time on the other side of the fence – to inspire the next generation.
“I spoke at the event and supported Lindum’s activities which included big diggers, doing site surveys on a hill and brickwork. It was great fun!”, he said.
Daniel joined Brook and Mayo Electrical four years ago and set up an EV charging division. As well as overseeing the installation of EV chargers, he assists with scheduling work for the small works engineers within the company. The engineers attend to planned and reactive call outs fixing electrical faults such as power outages, faulty door access equipment and faulty sockets. His team also regularly perform the early work on construction sites to bring power to the site.
“Construction is an industry that has so much to offer with hundreds of career options. There is so much more than just working on the tools.”
