Pipefitting
Pipefitters are responsible for the positioning, assembly, fabrication, maintenance and repairs of piping systems.
In 2025, pipefitting is being delivered within scholarship pathways at:
The Engineering College (Birkenhead) – ECITB Scholarship Pipefitting | The Engineering College
Hartlepool College (Tees Valley) – Hartlepool College of Further Education
Bridgewater & Taunton College (Bridgewater) – Bridgwater & Taunton College
Mechanical
Mechanical Maintenance Technicians are responsible for the fault diagnosis, routine servicing, repair and maintenance of complex plant, machinery and associated components and on occasions to install machinery used within their areas.
In 2025, the Mechanical Scholarship pathway is being delivered at:
East Coast College (Lowestoft) – East Coast College
Forth Valley College (Falkirk) – ECITB Scholarship – Mechanical | Forth Valley College
NESCol (Aberdeen) – Engineering: Energy Technician Pathway – North East Scotland College
Welding
Welders in the engineering construction industry are responsible for the joining together of metal, or sometimes thermoplastic, components and assemblies in either pipe or plate form.
In 2025, welding is being delivered within the Scholarship pathways at:
Train4All (Sommerton, South West) – ECITB Welding Scholarship – Train4All – Independent Construction Training
Forth Valley College (Falkirk) – ECITB Scholarship – Course Details | Forth Valley College
Pembrokeshire College (South Wales), ECITB Scholarship Programme – Pembrokeshire College
Fabrication
Good fabric maintenance helps maintain asset integrity. This discipline involves surface preparation, blast cleaning, spraying, painting and thermal insulation.
In 2025, fabrication is being delivered within the Scholarship pathways at:

Electrical / Instrument & Controls
Electrical Technicians install, test, inspect and diagnose faults in electrical systems and the associated cabling and equipment.
Instrument & Controls Technicians assemble, install, remove and replace components, disassemble, test functionality and operability, maintain and repair instrumentation systems.
In 2025, electrical / instrument & control pathways are being delivered at:
NESCol (Aberdeen) – Engineering: Energy Technician Pathway – North East Scotland College
Design & Draughting
Engineering Design & Draughting Technicians produce designs and drawings for structures, piping, electrical systems, control and instrumentation systems and mechanical components used in industrial and commercial construction.
In 2025, design & draughting is being delivered within the Scholarship pathways at:

What does an ECITB Scholarship involve
- Industrial skills and knowledge training for 3-5 days a week
- Online content – ECITB Digital Passport, clean energy technologies and behavioural based safety
- ECITB Pre Employment Programme which includes:
- CCNSG Safety Passport
- Working safely with hand tools, power tools and equipment
- Manual handling
- Low risk confined space
- Working at height
- Abrasive wheels (handheld and bench mounted)
- Regular meetings with employers looking for new talent
- Work placements with engineering construction employers
