Frazer works at Ineos Grangemouth as a Non Destructive Testing (NDT) technician, utilising his core skills in rope access as well as inspection.
Frazer first heard about apprenticeships from his family and friends who were themselves technicians, having qualified through this route. He was attracted by the opportunity of earning whilst learning skills that would equip him with improved career prospects. In the past, he had embarked on a university course, but it did not suit his circumstances at that period in his life. Frazer said: "It wasn't right for me at the time. However, I’m much more confident now about my career path and I’ve now applied to do a degree in NDT through my company. I feel more ready to tackle this and it helps as I am really enthusiastic about my career and believe it will help me progress up the ladder."
Frazer was attracted to NDT by the work involved and the responsibilities. One of Frazer's best experiences during his apprenticeship was the achievement of passing his PCN exams. He said: "Working on-site with experienced technicians and with the benefit of their knowledge and experience helped me pass these exams. We received excellent advice and teaching from the senior technicians and they supported us with our PCN exams preparation.''
Frazer's aim is to complete his degree and also work towards furthering his knowledge in Ultrasonic Testing. In the long term, Frazer sees no limit as to the extent of his expertise and has ambitions to learn more about Radiography.
