The achievements of two apprentices embarking on careers in the engineering construction industry were celebrated at an awards ceremony this month.

The ECITB sponsored the Trade Apprentice of the Year category at the EEEGR Awards, which was jointly won by Teddy Mattocks of Aquaterra Energy and Daniel Lark of Pruce Newman.

Teddy is a workshop technician with Aquaterra Energy, working offshore both in the UK and internationally in Norway and Egypt to maintain, repair and test equipment for the global oil and gas sector.  He completed an intermediate and advanced apprenticeship in engineering maintenance with East Coast College (Lowestoft Campus) and is now into his second year of a foundation degree in operations and maintenance engineering with the University of Suffolk.

Dan now works as junior contracts engineer with Pruce Newman after successfully completing his apprenticeship in all aspects of business from planning, through to site management and client engagement. He began his journey on the energy skills foundation programme at East Coast College (Lowestoft Campus) before being successfully recruited onto an advanced apprenticeship in project control.

Chris Claydon, Chief Executive of the ECITB, said: “Congratulations to Teddy and Dan on receiving this prestigious award. Both winners are great examples of how apprenticeships provide young people with the foundations they need to build exciting careers in engineering construction.”
