The Engineering Construction Industry Training Board (ECITB) has responded to today’s publication of the Government’s Industrial Strategy white paper (Monday 27 November).
Chris Claydon, Chief Executive of the ECITB, said:
“We welcome the Government’s Industrial Strategy white paper. It sets out a clear approach to addressing the major challenges facing the economy, from how we harness the benefits of technological change to long-standing domestic issues, such as tackling the UK’s poor productivity performance.
“The additional £406m for STEM education is a particularly welcome investment, which will help the country expand its technical skills base and support more young people into rewarding STEM careers.
“Boosting sector-level productivity and competitiveness is a key priority and so it is useful to see further detail on the Sector Deals. The ECITB looks forward to supporting the implementation of deals in sectors where the engineering construction industry plays a critical role, notably the Nuclear Sector Deal as well as future deals with the oil and gas and offshore wind sectors.”
