This week 36, students from the Nasser Vocational Training Centre (NVTC) in Bahrain are taking part in the pioneering new International Work Experience Programme from the ECITB. This two week intensive training programme combines practical work experience with site visits and will be delivered together with the ECITB’s Approved Training Provider, Training 2000 in Blackburn.
The ECITB together with the NVTC and Training 2000 has developed a programme that will give the students the opportunity to learn new skills, understand more about the engineering construction industry and visit companies and sites to gain first-hand experiences from qualified engineers. Students will gain real life experience of world class operations, which will provide better understanding of the professional standards required of an employee in a world class company. The students will also be accompanied throughout by Alex Butterworth, an apprentice with Training 2000, who will offer insights into his route in and experience within the industry.
Dr Tony Featherstone, ECITB director of International and Commercial Operations said:
“ We are really delighted to be able to offer this pioneering international work experience programme, and that NVTC students will be the first to take part. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for these students to see world class operations first hand, and to meet with and learn from apprentices and qualified engineers and professionals. We are also pleased to be working with one of our Approved Training Providers, not only enabling them to enhance their commercial income, but also to the wider benefit of UK training.”
The training and activities which are planned include: English language training, emphasising and enacting a professional work regime, appreciation of engineering skills, development of CVs and visits to local companies such as Rolls Royce Derby and Royal Mail Preston.
All students will receive an ECITB – Training 2000 International Work Experience Programme Completion Certificate that includes CAD, CNC, Fitting and Hand skills, and personal development. Students will also be taking home a personalised item, which they will have made themselves during the visit.
Commenting on the programme Steve Gray, chief executive from Training 2000 said:
“We were delighted to be asked to work alongside the ECITB on this project and we’re excited to welcome the students from the Nasser Vocational Training Centre. The opportunity to use our facility, meet with employers and see a whole new way of engineering will be something the students can really benefit from.”
The trip also contains a cultural element, with trips planned for around the North West, such as the Imperial War Museum in Manchester, Blackpool as well as two days at the end of the trip when the students will spend two days in London visiting tourist attractions before flying back to Bahrain,
