Driving positive change in project delivery – collaboration and cost efficiency in Oil & Gas

12 November 2015/Categories: Media News

ECITB Oil & Gas Project Management Conference 2015

On the 17 November, leading skills organisation for the offshore industry, the ECITB and the Offshore Project Management Steering Group, will host the second Oil and Gas Project Management Conference in Aberdeen. Following the first ever sell-out conference in 2013, this year’s event, ‘delivered for industry by industry’, will focus on themes critical to long term success - cost efficiency and collaboration in project delivery. The conference is focused on driving change and developing tangible outputs that the industry can work on and deliver.

This year’s conference has an impressive line-up of speakers including Petrofac, Shell E&P, Apache, Statoil and many more. Interactive Workshops throughout the day will provide a flavour of good practice principles and industry case studies which will challenge the audience to adopt these working practices across the sector. The goal is to drive behavioural change and both speakers and workshop presenters will look at identifying blockers to change, how to effect change and what the industry needs to stop doing to enable change to happen.

Alex Hosie, VP Europe, Petrofac Offshore Projects & Operations said:

“Petrofac is committed to playing it role in securing the sustainable future of the UK oil and gas industry. The ECITB Project Management conference will be an important platform for us to share best practice and to examine and discuss our progress as an industry. Throughout the supply chain we all aspire to create greater collaboration in order to eliminate waste, drive down cost and maximise efficiencies, but a number of barriers are still impeding our progress. To move forward we need to identify, understand and move beyond these barriers to achieve collaborative success in project management. I’m looking forward to debating this and other key issues during the conference.”

Chris Claydon, chief executive, ECITB said:

“The ECITB is delighted to host this event again with the support of the industry. The Conference addresses themes that are at the heart of long term, performance and sustainability. To remain internationally competitive we know we have to change and this has to be done on an industry-wide basis. The Offshore Project Management Steering Group facilitated by the ECITB has provided a means by which we can address these issues collectively and the Conference is the forum where we can bring the industry together. We look forward to this year’s output which will inform the next year’s focus and activities.”

With a very different operating climate in 2015 from 2013, it will be interesting to see what emerges. However, the industry knows it needs to change, and through the work of the ECITB and Steering Group this change is being made possible.

The ECITB has a strong focus on Project Management and does a great deal of work in the industry to support skills, qualifications and training and the cultivation of good practice. Each year the ECITB runs the ECITB Project Management Cup for the oil and gas community in Aberdeen. Based around the ACTIVE principles this inter-company event provides a focus for learning and collaboration. The ECITB also supports Industry masterclasses through webinars and cross-sector mentoring programmes.
