Participants in a project management mentoring programme for the oil and gas industry have been celebrated at an awards ceremony.

Over six months, mentors and mentees have identified areas for development and worked towards objectives and plans tailored to the needs of the individual mentee. Topics covered a range of operations within the oil and gas sector including project management tools, behaviours and leadership development.

The programme, which is run by the Offshore Project Management Steering Group (OPMSG) and the Engineering Construction Industry Training Board (ECITB), included nine pairings of mentors and mentees.

They were awarded certificates by Peter Benton, at an awards event at the Treetops Hotel in Aberdeen on Tuesday 20 February.

Chris Claydon, Chief Executive of the ECITB, said: “This programme is an excellent example of industry cooperation to make sure best practice approaches are widely understood and undertaken.
“In the face of the current challenges presented to the oil and gas industry it’s important that we work together to maximise economic recovery.
“The ECITB is proud to support this and the other project management development programmes that encourage knowledge sharing within the sector and knowledge transfer to and from other sectors within the engineering construction industry.”

Peter Benton of Cephas Project management Ltd, who is the Project Management Competence Workgroup lead for the Offshore Project Management Steering Group said: “Congratulations to all of the participants. Here we see commercial interests put aside and companies and people working together and sharing knowledge to improve the capability of the whole sector.
Maximising economic recovery and sustaining the oil and gas sector into the future depends on the world-class delivery of projects and mentoring programmes such as this can only help improve our performance.”
