The Engineering Construction Industry Training Board (ECITB) is delighted to announce its collaboration with the new National College for Nuclear (NCfN).

Leading skills organisation, the ECITB, has pledged to support the aims of NCfN, providing Awarding Body services and curriculum development support for sector specific qualification development. This service will allow the college to develop Ofqual, SQA and Qualifications Wales registered qualifications to assist in the establishment of the college.

The college is a substantial step forward in meeting the demand for highly skilled workers in the nuclear sector and will offer courses designed by employers for a range of highly specialised careers.

One of five National Colleges it will equip the workforce of tomorrow with high-level technical training. The NCfN aims to train over 7,000 learners by 2020 from two hubs – one at Lakes College, Lillyhall and one at Bridgwater College, Somerset.

Commenting on the collaboration, Steve Barrett, sector manager - nuclear, ECITB said;

“This is a great opportunity for the ECITB and the National College for Nuclear to collaborate on a truly ambitious initiative. We are proud to be supporting the college as Secretariat to the Qualifications and Curriculum Advisory Group and as the Awarding Body developing qualifications for industry with industry”.

The ECITB has a statutory responsibility to develop the UK’s engineering construction workforce. A leader in skills and training, vocational qualifications and standards, the ECITB already plays an important role together with other organisations in supporting the nuclear skills agenda. The ECITB has a cross-sector membership base across the engineering construction industry, which means it is well positioned to collaborate with other industry specialists in leveraging best practice and expertise to the benefit of the nuclear industry.
