Frequently asked questions

Q: Is there an age barrier or any other barriers?

A: No, there are no age restrictions. You are able to work towards the Vocational Qualification in the way that suits both you and your company’s needs. Using the assessor for guidance, you can plan and work at your own speed to achieve the complete qualification. It can be done all at once or in stages. There are no formal examinations to be sat. Simply performing work activities in the work environment can be a sufficient measure of your competence.

Q: Can a VQ help me change direction in my career?

A: If you feel that you need a change in career or perhaps to a different role within the same company, VQs provide a flexible qualification. As they are based on National Standards, they are recognised throughout the engineering construction industry.

Q: What range do VQs cover?

A: Vocational Qualifications are available throughout a wide range of occupations within and outside the industry. Vocational Qualifications for managerial and professional roles (normally level four or five) are linked to ECITB management programmes and will significantly help to gain entry into a professional institution.

Q: If I work for a small company can I get a VQ?

A: The size of the company does not matter at all. Indeed, in some ways, working in a small/medium company may prove to be an advantage, with the employer being able to give the individual a broader experience.
