What The Industry Does

What is the engineering construction industry?

Power stations, oil platforms, chemical processing plants - ever wondered how they got there? The engineering construction industry is the answer.

The engineering construction industry designs and constructs process plants for the oil and gas, water, environmental, food, power generation, pharmaceutical and chemical industries.

And if this still doesn't mean much - think about all the things that they produce next time you ride in a car, turn on a tap, switch on a light, take some medicine or eat a bar of chocolate. Then you might realise just what an important industry engineering construction is and how it affects almost every aspect of modern life!

Engineering construction at home and abroad

The engineering construction industry makes a major contribution to the UK economy. It constructs so many vital parts of our infrastructure that it is hard to see how we could function without it. The UK industry also does a significant amount of its work in the export market, about 50 per cent of its work is carried out overseas. Which also means that if you work in the industry there is a good chance that you will get to travel. People are working on projects all over the world right now!

The engineering construction industry also helps the environment as it carries out repairs on plants and replaces components with more efficient modern ones. These reduce emissions and make the plants cleaner and safer for those who work there. It also assists developing nations as it updates their process plants and builds new ones that actually help raise the standard of living.
