Development & Pilot of Combined Online Programme for On/Offshore
This project was initiated in August 2007 to create a tutor led, interactive combined e-learning equivalent of the New SMTD programme, which was launched successfully last year. To date modules 1, 2a, 2b, 3a and 3b have been produced with module 4, Health, Safety & the Environment, currently in development, following the successful pilot of the new classroom version. The Pilot programme is progressing well with delegates having recently started module 3a. It is aimed the programme will provide an alternative means of studying for those preferring this method of tutoring or for whom attendance to classroom courses is not feasible or constrained. It will be possible for individuals to choose between classroom and online versions for each module of the programme. Module 5, Presentation Skills, will continue as a classroom only course, however, due to its content and assessment requirements. However, visual aides for this module have been updated to incorporate Macromedia Flash used in the online system. Modules 1through to 2b are currently being evaluated and are to be available generally to industry early 2009. Other modules will follow suit.

Develop a higher level management qualification for those individuals and companies wishing to consolidate learning through this route
Discussions are in place with Teesside University for linking up to provide a higher level management qualification built around work based learning (WBL) and available with online distance learning as a core part of the course. Learners will be able to use the ECITB SMTD programme as 50% contribution of the required course content. Full course detail is currently being prepared to allow for an industry wide consultation as part of the approval process for the introduction of this new qualification. It is anticipated that delegates who have completed the ECITB SMTD programme in the past five years will be eligible for inclusion, following a suitable university short conversion module.
