Project Control Programme Development
Pilot Project Control Apprenticeship
This project was initiated in March 2007 to create an entry point for school leavers in to the Project Control discipline. The outcome of the apprenticeship is a NVQ Level 3 in Project Control and a BTEC National Certificate in either; Construction, Civil Engineering or Operations and Maintenance. A Working Group was set up in the NE and Learning Outcomes for the training programme were set in April 07 and are available through the Level 2 Learning Outcomes link on the right.
In Sept 07, 14 learners were recruited by companies in the NE of England to commence their training at NETA Training Group. In July 08, all 14 graduated from their Off the Job Programme by presenting their simulated projects to their employers at an event held in the NE. The feedback from employers was excellent with high hopes for the learners continued development.
This development project will not be complete until all of the 14 learners have completed their NVQ Level 3 in Project Control and become Graduate Members of the Association of Cost Engineers, this is not expected until early 2011. In the meantime another cohort has been recruited in the NE and a cohort recruited at Grimsby Institute of Further and Higher Education, following the same type of programme.
Off-shore Project Control Programme
This project was initiated in May 08. The aim of this project is to provide off-shore companies with a programme that develops the Project Control tools and techniques of new and existing personnel within the company. The programme uses a simulated project delivered through a blended learning methodology of face to face workshop and VLE all delivered by Angus College.
The simulated project, known as the Granite Project, requires the learners to act as an EPC contractor to install a Jacket on to a sub-sea installation. The Clients Summary level plans and costs are available by clicking on the Granite Project - Summary of Costs link on the right.
This development project is scheduled to finish in June 09. Once complete this programme will be available for off-shore and could be used or adapted for other sectors of the industry.
