Terry Lazenby

Terry Lazenby FREng is to lead the Engineering Construction Industry Training Board from 1st October 2005 on the retirement of Jim Rowland CBE.

Terry has proven leadership experience in the engineering construction sector including oil and gas, chemicals and water businesses.

He has a deep understanding of the skills issues within the sector and will take over at the ECITB to continue the change processes started by Jim Rowland CBE.

“The sector is finding it difficult to attract and retain the people it needs to service the clients and their installations. With the ageing workforce, changes in behaviour are necessary to prevent the situation worsening” said Terry Lazenby. “The ECITB has responded to these under Jim Rowland’s leadership and I am looking forward to carrying on this work. The strategy of Attracting talented people, Developing them and Recognising skills achievements and competence is the key to success for the ECITB itself and for the sector as a whole”.

Phil Hope MP, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Skills with the DfES said “I am delighted at the appointment of Terry Lazenby to chair the ECITB and I also pay tribute to Jim Rowland for his significant contribution over the last six years. I am pleased that the ECITB is now positioned in the Skills for Business network working alongside Sector Skills Councils such as Cogent, CITB-Construction Skills and Energy and Utility Skills to help ensure that engineering construction employers have the modern skills to continue to support the major energy and process industries that much of the UK’s economy depends on.”

He is currently Chairman of Portsmouth Water Limited and is a non executive director with Expro International Group plc and MTL Instruments Group plc.
