Yorkshire and Humberside is one of the most dynamic diverse and forward looking regions within the country, providing an unsurpassable location for heavy industry, requiring the support of engineering contract companies.
With the existing oil, power, gas and chemical plants going through a significant period of expansion, coupled with the growth of bio fuels. Yorkshire and Humberside having been selected by a large number of Bio fuel companies to build their environmentally beneficial plants in the region, the future of the region looks very bright.
Current expansion, committed and ongoing in the region is well in excess of £1 billion with more to come.
Due to the expansion and the ongoing works, it has been recognised by the local clients and contractors that there is a need to increase the amount of training in order to meet the demand for skilled people and have therefore committed to increasing the number of trainees entering the industry year on year for the foreseeable future. This will provide a wonderful opportunity for local employment, with the training being carried out in the CATCH centre that is recognised as a best in class training facility within the UK.
The Yorkshire and Humberside Team are pleased to announce that following on from last year’s successful Apprentice recruitment open evening they will be holding a similar event on January 31st 2013 at the CATCH Facility, Redwood Park estate, Stallingborough, North East Lincs, DN41 8TH. Despite the atrocious weather conditions last year’s event was attended by over 300 people , and we hope to build on this success in January. This is a great opportunity for prospective Apprentice applicants to talk to local employers who will be recruiting in 2013 , the regional ECITB team for advice, the Grimsby Institute who will be training next year’s cohort and Apprentices who are currently on program. There will also be the chance to tour the impressive CATCH facility where the first year’s training will take place. Doors will open at 16:30 and close at 19:30 so be sure to make the most of this exciting opportunity to become part of Engineering Constructions future success.
Yorkshire and Humberside Skills Event
On the 17th and 18th October the Yorkshire and Humberside team attended a major skills event at Elland Road Stadium home of the mighty Leeds United. This was the teams largest careers event to date and they were able to trial the new interactive self-assembly wind turbine kit which proved to be a massive hit. Adrian Wookey and Sallyann Garrard-Hughes, from ECITB’s Yorkshire & Humberside region were extremely busy on both days and saw some very innovative and interesting wind turbine designs from the school children.
“The visitors, totalling 5933 comprised of school and college students, teachers, careers advisors and parents/carers,” commented Adrian. “The ECITB stand was able to engage with a wide and diverse audience, and hopefully in the process managed to attract some new recruits to the industry.”
