How to become an Approved Centre

What is an approved centre?

An Approved Centre is an organisation, having met the regulatory authority’s criteria, is approved by awarding bodies to offer assessment and verification of N/SVQs.

The role of an Approved Centre includes;

  • Manage assessment and verification on a day-to-day basis.
  • Registration and certification of candidates.
  • Have effective assessment practices and internal verification procedures.
  • Meet awarding body requirements for qualification delivery.
  • Have sufficient competent Assessors and Internal Verifiers with enough time and authority to carry out their roles effectively.

How to become an Approved Centre

The Awarding body role includes:

  • administering N/SVQs, including approving and monitoring approved centres, and issuing certificates
  • implementing administration and certification systems which provide a responsive, streamlined and cost effective service
  • providing clear advice and guidance on the implementation of its qualifications for its customers
  • promoting N/SVQs and unit accreditation
  • maintaining effective links with employers, SSCs, SSBs, SQA, QCA and other interested groups to ensure that qualifications remain current and credible within the sectors concerned
  • developing assessment methodology, instruments and documentation to be used for assessment of N/SVQs and units, in line with the general principles for assessment defined by the SSB
  • applying rigorous quality assurance mechanisms to maintain and monitor the quality and consistency of assessment of accredited VQs
