Engineering construction industry employers and scholarship providers are invited to get involved in showcasing their careers at a high-profile gallery in London.
The ECITB is working with the Science Museum to raise awareness of engineering construction technician careers (Level 4+) through delivering a series of free activities in the museum’s Technicians: The David Sainsbury Gallery.
This free interactive gallery is designed for young people aged 11–16 to explore a wide range of technician careers through hands-on experiences.
These include stepping into the world of renewable energy to solve problems faced by wind turbine technicians and operating a robotic arm to weld a track. The gallery shines a light on the vital role technicians play across the economy.
Over eight days across two weeks in summer 2027, the ‘ECI takeover’ will inspire the next generation into the industry through hands-on experiences of careers in the industry.

“Similar to the ethos of Lincolnshire Construction and Engineering Week, letting young people try activities related to pipefitting, electrical work, mechanical assembly and project coordination transforms career exploration from a passive exercise into an unforgettable experience.
“Students who thought they had no interest in engineering might find a specific discipline that captures their imagination.
“Hands-on experiences can help close the representation gap in industry by giving underrepresented and marginalised individuals direct access to practical skills that traditional careers events often fail to provide.
“And with 40,000 extra workers predicted to be needed by 2030, inspiring enough young people to consider careers in engineering construction demands more than information – it needs that impactful experience.”
