Apprenticeships
NDT Technician apprentices will be required to undergo a period of college/training provider-based training usually lasting 1 year.
During this year you will attain knowledge and skills in relation to the majority of the NDT processes and techniques, such as visual inspection, magnetic particle inspection and ultrasonics enabling you to detect surface and sub-surface flaws in components. You’ll learn the theory of radiography, although the health and safety implications will mean practical experience will be gained in a production environment.
In the 2nd and the 3rd and final year of your apprenticeship, you’ll gain further experience in the processes and techniques, although this time it will be in the setting of an engineering construction site with the recording and interpretation of results in a laboratory environment.
You may also be required to attend college to enhance your theoretical grasp of NDT, pursuing an HNC on a day-release or evening basis. This will be at the discretion of your employer.
