Welding is the joining together of metal components and assemblies using extreme heat generated by electric or gas welding equipment to melt the metal. Welders will be required to read and interpret welding specifications, establish the correct process to be used, select the correct material and welding equipment, prepare the material for welding and skillfully weld together the components in accordance with strict tolerances and quality standards.

Having been trained in the fundamental skills at a college or training centre, you can expect to go on sites such as petrochemical plants, oil refineries and other processing plants and deploy the skills attained during the off-the-job training period, develop them further and gain experience, working closely with one or more experienced tradespersons.
