Moving Loads is the lifting, moving and positioning of large objects during engineering construction projects. It involves detailed planning and control of all lifts to complete a given project. Riggers, in collaboration with crane drivers are responsible for safely attaching loads to cranes and overseeing lifting operations.

You will be required to extract information from sources such as method statements and engineering drawings to establish the most appropriate method of moving loads. These loads can take various forms from plant and equipment to structural steelwork.

You will then use specialist equipment to lift and position the loads. Having been trained in the fundamental skills at a college or training centre, you can expect to go on sites such as petrochemical plants, oil refineries and other processing plants and deploy the skills attained during the off-the-job training period, develop them further and gain experience, working as part of a team.
