Industry Report 2008

The 2008 Industry Report gives an overview of the labour market and an insight into the profile of the engineering construction industry (ECI).

The increase in work that saw a significant rise in 2006 continued throughout 2007 and the number of people employed in the industry rose accordingly. Total employment instances were 72,900, up by almost 10%, with the off-site sector of the industry continuing to rise faster than onsite. This area of work now has the largest number of employees for the first time in recent history.

The increase in the number of people working in the industry has had a knock-on effect on the uptake of ECITB products and services. Over 5,700 people undertook some form of training, development or qualifications, provided or sponsored by the ECITB.

As in previous years, the report does not attempt to draw any conclusions, but it does detail the activities undertaken by ECITB during the year and gathers data from different research and analysis studies to provide breakdown by industry, occupation, region etc. The information contained here will continue to inform the ECITB's ongoing strategy.
