Energy Skills – Opportunity and Challenge
The Energy White Paper, published in May 2007 recognised the challenges posed by an ageing workforce, an ageing energy infrastructure and the imperative to reduce carbon emissions.
In response to a request from the trade unions that an energy-wide review of skills should be undertaken, the White Paper asked the Sector Skills Organisations covering energy to report on the situation, identify present and future skills shortages and gaps and set out the actions being taken to ensure the UK has a skilled workforce for the future and make recommendations on how the delivery of skills can be improved.
